Karl Henry's body focus: unleash your potential
Have you reached your potential in life? Have you reached your potential in your job? With your partner? With your creativity?
Do you spend your day trudging along, dreaming of being somewhere and something totally different from where and what you actually are?
Are you envious of those who are "living the dream"?
Do you ever wonder what is stopping you from taking that leap towards something you really want to do?
As George Bernard Shaw said: "Give a man health and a course to steer, and he’ll never stop to trouble about whether he’s happy or not."
Setting out a plan for what it is you want will not only make you happier, you will be more motivated, more focused, more determined in every aspect of your life. You will wake up with a purpose each day. By creating a purpose, you will be several steps closer to achieving your potential.
The first thing that you need to do is identify what the things are that you really want from life, be it success in your career or your personal life, or getting fit and shifting those excess pounds.
That is your dream, your idea of what your potential is.
Now consider what can you do today that will help you reach your potential? What you can you focus on next week, next month and maybe even this year?
Don't make vague, sweeping statements - make your action plan specific, make it real and tangible.
Now draw your course, your map that will step by step help you reach that dream. Want to move into a new career area? Sign up for a course. Want to find that special someone? Try internet dating. Want to run a marathon? Get out and jog for 30 seconds today.
This is your roadmap to your destination, so get your pen and get your paper and get drawing.
Nutty youghut bites
Nuts are a fantastic source of protein and good fats for your body. They will also help to stabilise your blood sugar. Always choose nuts that aren't coated in honey or chocolate, and unsalted is always better too. Brazil nuts are a great source of selenium, which is great for your thyroid. Cashew nuts and almonds are also great sources of minerals.
You will need
1 cup of mixed and diced unsalted nuts/seeds
200g of Greek yoghurt
1 tablespoon of honey
1) Dice the nuts or seeds into small pieces.
2) Place in a bowl, add the yoghurt and honey and mix well.
4) Pour into a tin, or an ice-cube tray with large sections, and put in the freezer until fully set.
5) Cut the yoghurt into bite-sized pieces, or empty the ice-cube tray, and enjoy.
Exercise clothing and equipment can be so expensive that it puts people off trying something new. But you don't need to spend a fortune to get started. Keep an eye on the Lidl catalogues for its clothing and exercise equipment. They're great value and great quality too.
Make a note of one thing that you are going to do - just one - that will make you healthier at the end of the day. Keep it simple, like drinking more water, not having that chocolate or getting off bus one stop earlier. Whatever it is, write it somewhere visible and make it happen today.
