'I make a pretty mean pizza from scratch'
A young family and a busy job keep RTE sports reporter Darren Frehill in good shape. That, and a target to complete his first triathlon next spring...
Do you consider yourself to have a healthy lifestyle? I'd like to think so. I have three young kids so it's certainly active at the moment. I love the outdoors so we try and get out and about as a family as much as possible.
Do you exercise regularly? If so, what do you do?
Exercise has always played a big role in my life. I am setting myself a target of doing my first triathlon next spring.
Do you do it willingly or begrudgingly?
I love it, and my only regret is that I don't have more time to spend exercising. It's a great way to unwind and clear the head.
What time do you go to bed?
Not early enough! Despite a very early start with work during the week, I tend to get to bed between 10 and 11pm. I know some of my RTE colleagues are in bed for 9pm, but that would just never happen in our 'mad house' at the moment.
What time do you get up in the morning?
I present the sport on Morning Ireland on Radio 1 so I have a 5am start when I am on duty.
What do you have for breakfast?
Mornings tend to be a bit of rush, so it's a quick cup of tea and a slice of toast. I'll bring a banana for the car. I usually have a second breakfast around 9am, where I'd have a bowl of porridge, and a coffee to kick start the rest of the day.
I try to eat healthy on the weekdays and usually keep lunch pretty simple with scrambled eggs and toast or an omelette.
I'm lucky to have a wife that loves to cook so dinnertime is never dull. The kids love pasta so we tend to have a lot of that, but we also eat a lot of meat and fish. I recently did some ooking classes myself, I make a pretty good pizza from scratch, but my specialty is a very unhealthy tiramisu.
I love a cup of tea and a little treat after the kids get off to bed. It's one of the highlights of my day.
Do you take any supplements?
Not really, but I do keep a tube of Rubex or Berocca handy if I am feeling a little run down.
How much water do you drink?
Not enough, I know it's really good for you, but I find it really bland.
Do you have a skincare routine?
No but I have lots of cleansers, gels and creams gathering dust in the bathroom.
Not that I know of, thankfully.
A pint of the black stuff every now and again.
If I could change one thing about my lifestyle it would be...
I tend to bring work home with me so I spend a lot of time on the phone or on the computer. I have a very understanding family, but sometimes I'd like to be able to park it at the door and switch off once I get home.
