“I remember really liking this picture at the time because it just had a strength about it and also figure-wise I looked athletic yet shapely. Sometimes that athletic thing can be a little masculine, but I looked like I had curves in this picture.

The swimsuit was actually my own. I don’t have it anymore, but it was a great buy because it was very figure-flattering. It accentuated the waist and gave me a little curvature on the hips because I am very slim-hipped. It gave me a little extra roundness that I really wanted.

“Usually people are looking for less roundness, but I was always looking for more. I wasn’t that experienced in modelling at that time. I was 22 when I started modelling and I was probably about three years into it when this picture was taken. I was fairly confident, but we all have things we like or don’t like about ourselves — with me it was my narrow hips and when you have hips that narrow, you actually have to work harder to keep your stomach flat and your waist small so that you will have a shape, so that was always my challenge. My legs were always my best feature. I was very much an 80s model and I was lucky because my body type at that time was very in.”
