The power of positive thinking, cornflakes and watching cookery shows - comedian Anne Gildea talks about her lifestyle
DO YOU consider yourself to have a healthy lifestyle? Positively, absolutely, yes. The secret is being absolutely positive. The trick is to tell yourself, 'I am positive', even if you often find yourself sitting in the dark in your Spanx at 3am googling stuff like 'How to live on nothing' and 'Brain tumour: symptoms'.
Do you exercise regularly? If so, what do you do?
I aim for every day, and mainly miss. I'm in a gym phase at the moment (allegedly). I do half an hour on the step machine, half an hour on the cross trainer, half an hour in front of the changing room mirror going, 'How the feck can my arse be so massive after all that?'
Do you do it willingly or begrudgingly?
I LOVE doing it (I am positive).
What time do you go to bed?
Varies – Depends on whether I'm gigging, socialising, travelling or sitting up in my Spanx googling stuff like 'Why isn't exercise working?' and 'Big bottoms: how to tackle them'.
What time do you get up in the morning?
Varies – Depends on whether I'm 'on the road', doing something special like 'getting married' or writing and rehearsing a fabulous music/comedy show – The Nualas are going to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the first time in over a decade this year. (Assembly, George Sq, 6:30pm, July 30 – Aug 25, booking will open soon).
What do you have for breakfast?
Cornflakes – they're a euro a box in my local Spar at the moment.
Cornflakes (see above) or caviar blini and crab consommé.
Cornflakes (above, again) or a bit of chicken. Generally, I prefer watching the activity of cookery on Masterchef rather than actually partaking of such lunacy myself.
Cornflakes or a bit of cheese.
Do you take any supplements?
Multi vitamins, flaxseed oil, cod liver oil, soya lecithin, glucosamine sulphate, sea kelp, wine.
How much water do you drink?
Gallons (in the form of tea).
Do you have a skincare routine?
Look in the mirror, tell my skin 'you are positive'. Wash face with Neutrogena wash, moisturise with various creams or Bio Oil. Drink lots of water (in the form of tea).
Nationwide on RTE One brings me out in a rash.
NO. (I am positive.)
If I could change one thing about my lifestyle it would be ...
I'd like to be in a position to split my time between my loft in Manhattan, pied a terre in London and villa in the South of France whilst popping over to Africa and similar continents occasionally to help the starving and dispossessed.
The Nualas play Solstice Arts Centre, Navan, Friday, June 20.
