How long does it take to burn off your favourite Easter eggs?

With hundreds of Easter eggs lining the shelves in shops around the country, it can be hard to resist indulging in an egg when Easter comes (or in the days beforehand).

Local services marketplace has calculated just how many calories are in our favourite eggs, as well as how long it would take to burn them off.

"With Easter coming up we wanted to highlight just how many calories people are actually consuming and, to put it into context, just how long they’d need to exercise to burn it off," said co-founder Russ Morgan.

"We don’t want to put people off from indulging in the Easter festivities, however as with everything moderation is key."

Out of the 20 most popular eggs from a survey, the classic Dairy Milk egg has the highest calorie count of 1,758, meaning it would take three hours of running to burn it off.

Next up is Cadbury's Caramel, with 1,683 calories, which would take 4.9 hours of sit ups, or 2.9 hours running, to burn off.

The popular Mini Egg option contains 980 calories, with a gruelling two hours of burpees to burn off, while Cadbury's Creme egg, containing 922 calories, would take a little less, at 1.9 hours of burpees.

The Mars egg has the third highest calorie count, with 1,623 calories and 2.8 hours of running to burn off.

The Flake and Wispa eggs tie at 1,562 calories, equating to 4.6 hours of sit ups or 2.7 hours of running.
