Home and Away actor Johnny Ruffo has shared that he has been diagnosed with brain cancer.

The 29-year-old posted a photo to Instagram telling his followers the news.

"So I have the news. It was a bit of a shock and I've got an interesting journey ahead and a bit of a battle," he wrote.

"I am starting aggressive treatment for the next few months to fight the diagnosis of brain cancer. Please stay positive for me and I'll try to update you guys on my progress."

The news comes after Johnny underwent emergency surgery to remove a brain tumour earlier this month.

Sharing a photo of his scar following the operation, he wrote: "Some things in life really put things into perspective, hoping for a positive result, keep me in your thoughts."

Since sharing the news of his diagnosis earlier today, Johnny, who reached the final of X Factor Australia in 2011, has been inundated with well wishes from his fans.
