Allison Keating answers your queries about life & relationships

Question: I am 45 years of age and I have never had a best friend. I have friends, but none that I could call up and chat to on spec. I don’t understand why this is — I am outgoing, reliable, fun and have no problem starting conversations and arranging meet-ups. I have mums I chat to at the school gates and go for coffees with, I play Gaelic and I have a couple of friends at work, but I really feel like I am the only person who doesn’t have a best friend. Any meet-ups with all the aforementioned always come at my behest. No one ever reaches out to me.
