Yvonne Hogan: I ran the Fit Magazine City Series Cork 5k
I did it! I ran the Fit Magazine City Series Cork 5k. And it was actually a lovely, lovely experience.
The weather helped - la brea brothollach a bhi ann, as we used to say in our primary school essays, agus ni raibh scamail sa speir.
And the route was absolutely gorgeous - along the Marina in Cork to Blackrock Castle and back.
The night before and the morning of, I was nervous. I was afraid that I would be a huffing, puffing chubby anomoly amongst legions of Sonia O'Sullivan types, but as soon as I arrived all my nerves went.
The crowd was very friendly and very mixed. There were all shapes, ages, sizes and levels amongst my fellow runners. There was an air of cameraderie and anticipation in the air. It was a lovely, positive atmosphere.
The 10k runners left first, with us 5kers 15 minutes behind. I was towards the back of the group and it wasn't long before the distance between us grew, but I didn't care. I stuck to my pace and I listened to my music and I just ran. Before I knew it, I had reached the 1k mark.
There was a bit of a hill between the 1k and the 2k, and I walked some of that as I was running out of steam and I was worried it would finish me off.
I didn't run all the way back - I walked every five minutes for a minute or so, but I did run the last kilometre.
At that point, the last of the 10kers were joining me and their presence really spurred me on. And I felt great reaching that finish line.
My time was 38.08 and I came 104 out of 122, but I am not embarrassed by that. I thought I would be, but I am not.
I am proud of myself for following through and completing the challenge, and after mingling with the other competitors in Cork, I see that running means different things to different people.
Some were there to win, some were there to provide a focus for their training, some wanted to lose weight and some were there for the sheer joy of it. Anything goes.
So it's on to the next challenge for me - and I am hoping for you.
All will be revealed next week.
