Foods with hidden salt
Instant noodles, packet and tinned soups. Pickles and marinated foods, ketchups and sauces. Ready meals, supermarket pizzas and takeaway pizzas. Frozen and boxed mixes for potatoes, rice and pasta.
• Breakfast cereals can be surprisingly high in salt. A recent Which? survey showed 8 out of 50 popular cereals had levels of salt above the target of 1.1 grams per 100 grams. Among these were Nestlé Cheerios, Kellogg's Rice Krispies, Kellogg's Special K and Lidl Cornflakes.
• Boxed sandwiches sold in garages and convenience stores have been found to be high in salt, particularly those with fillings of bacon or processed meats. Deli counter meats are also salty, especially hams and salamis.
