Comparison is the thief of joy: “Why can’t I be as fit as her?” and “Why aren’t I as productive as him?” This time of year usually sees the “comparison mode” go into overdrive. We scrutinise what others around us are doing. Assumptions are made about the goals they appear to be setting for the new year. Then, without context or details, we immediately compare our situations to theirs.
