For better or worse: Man literally falls for girlfriend during romantic clifftop proposal as emergency crews called
A romantic proposal went wrong when a man literally fell for his bride-to-be and broke his ankle.
John Dardis thought he had the perfect way to get down on one knee planned when he decided to pop the question to his partner Suzannah Newham on a clifftop near Newquay in Cornwall.
Unfortunately the would-be Casanova took a tumble during their stroll last weekend and ended up having to be rescued by the emergency services.
Newquay Coastguard revealed: "The casualty today was a John who was visiting Cornwall with Suzie for the weekend.
"He was intending a romantic proposal but after slipping while waiting for emergency services decided to ask then as it was more romantic than hospital."
While they waited for the coastguard John decided to ask Suzie to marry him and happily she said yes.
He later posted a photo of his broken ankle set in a plaster cast beside a bucket of celebratory champagne and he admits the unusual twist only added to the story as he thanked the emergency workers.
John said: "Back safe at hotel with cast - broken fibula at ankle end - two attempts to set... ouch!
"Huge thanks to all the crew!
"You were super efficient and had great banter which has added to our engagement story!"
