Food news: savour West Cork
Kudos to the folk behind the Taste of West Cork Food Festival, who have put together a programme of 255 events spread across 41 West Cork towns and villages, and eight islands.
The festival runs from September 7-16 and will attract in the region of 30,000 visitors.
The 'sell-your-granny-for-a-ticket' event is the West Cork Menu being put on by Heron & Grey at Mews in Baltimore on Tuesday, September 11. The cost is €95pp and spaces are limited to 28. Tickets go on sale on September 1.
Other pop-ups include Ken Doherty and Gwen McGrath of Assassination Custard, who will be at Pilgrim's in Roscarbery on Wednesday, September 12, and Enda McEvoy of Loam in Galway, who'll be at Restaurant Chestnut in Ballydehob on Sunday, September 9.
Danni Barry of Clenaghan's is cooking at Glebe Gardens on Saturday September 15, while Kevin Ahern of Sage in Midleton will be at the Dunmore House Hotel in Clonakilty on the 13th.
There will also be a number of visiting chefs from the US.
West Cork was named Ireland's top foodie destination 2017 by the Restaurant Association of Ireland, and the festival aims to showcase all that's best about the region, with themed feasts, outdoor food tastings, foraging walks, open-air markets, seminars, cook-offs, masterclasses, and evenings with local artisan food producers.
An evening Lobster Garden Party with 2014 MasterChef Ireland winner Diana Dodog will take place at The Lifeboat Inn gastropub, Courtmacsherry. O'Keeffe's SuperValu in Bantry will play host to The Happy Pear brothers, David and Stephen Flynn, for an in-store cookery demonstration.
At Bumblebee Farm in Castledonovan near Drimoleague, there's a farm tour followed by cocktails and a tasting menu from Eddie Atwell, head chef at Eccles Hotel, Glengarriff. Roly's Bistro from Dublin will pop up at Annie May's Bar & Restaurant in Skibbereen. A Celebration of the Bounty of West Cork with Ballymaloe's head chef, Gillian Hegarty, will take place at Arís Café & Wine Bar, Asna Square, Clonakilty, where guests can expect global influences and the very best West Cork has to offer over five courses, small-plate style, with matching wines. Other Irish guest chefs include Rachel Allen and Martin Shanahan, with Derry Clarke of l'Ecrivain returning to host his annual event on Sherkin Island. See atasteofwestcork.com

Wagyu wonders at BuJo
BuJo in Dublin's Sandymount is adding a limited-edition Wexford Wagyu Burger to its diner-inspired menu, available exclusively for the next few weeks. The beef is adorned with a range of toppings including Pedro Ximénez glazed snowball onions, gorgonzola dolce and truffle mayo. See bujo.ie.
Tour Italy with Il Vicolo
Galway-based restaurant and wine bar Il Vicolo is offering wine enthusiasts a true taste of Italy's finest with their inaugural Italian Wine Tour. The five-day trip across Toscana's famed wine region starts on September 3 and runs again on the 24th. See ilvicolowinetours.ie.
