If you're planning to have afternoon tea at Dublin's five-star Shelbourne Hotel before Christmas, mid-week is your only option.

The festive afternoon teas, priced at €58 and €73 per person, are already booked out at weekends.

“There is more availability midweek for this at the moment,” a spokesperson for the hotel said.

Expect dainty finger sandwiches made with Castletownbere turf smoked salmon or braised Waterford ham with shallots, or egg and cress on brioche, and of course, the requisite warm buttermilk scones with clotted cream and Shelbourne strawberry jam.

For sweet toothed shoppers, festive treats include Rudolph (a chocolate and raspberry macaron), a christmas tree (pistachio frangipane, white chocolate and pistachio cheesecake), the snowman (coconut mousse, with a mango passion centre) and a mini Shelbourne mince pie.

Festive Afternoon Tea is served daily from 11:45am – 6:30pm.
