Indy Power's glow green detox smoothie

Gorgeously creamy and bursting with goodness, this smoothie will put pep in your step in 2017.

GLOW GREEN SMOOTHIE

This is such a nourishing smoothie full of green goodness. It's exactly what I'm craving after all the Christmas indulgence. It's got everything you need to rehydrate and restore your body and it's seriously delicious too.

The coconut water base makes it super hydrating and adds a little sweetness along with the banana, as well as loads of potassium.

The kale and spinach add a boost of antioxidants, vitamins, iron and fibre and the cashew butter and avocado provide loads of healthy fats and make it gorgeously creamy.

Serves 2. Gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan-friendly and paleo-friendly.

Ingredients

20g kale

400ml coconut water

30g spinach

INDY LOVES…

Smoothie bags! Smoothies are such a delicious way to pack loads of nutrients into one easy snack. Most people like to have them in the mornings and I love this simple hack to save you time. Prep and add all of the ingredients, except the liquid, into a Ziploc bag the night before. Pop them in the fridge or freezer and then in the morning just dump it all into your blender, pour in the liquid and blitz. No chopping, cleaning or measuring when you’re in a rush. You can make them a few days in advance, too, so it’s perfect for prepping over the weekend.

It’s no secret how much I love coconuts and coconut water is no exception. It’s so delicious and refreshing and has loads of health benefits. It’s best straight from a young coconut (gorgeously sweet!) but any pure coconut water is great and super-hydrating thanks to its electrolyte composition. The cytokinins in coconut water are said to have anti-ageing and anti-carcinogenic properties and it’s a great source of magnesium and potassium. It’s also full of natural bioactive enzymes, which help digestion and metabolism. Whenever I have an upset stomach, coconut water (and fresh coconut flesh) really helps me, as it’s really gentle and soothing on the stomach and great for getting me back on track.

BUTTER ME UP

I’m obsessed with cashew butter at the moment. I love all nut butters but none are quiet as creamy and smooth as cashew butter, and it tastes nice and sweet even with nothing added. I love making my own but you can also get it in shops. Just make sure to look for pure cashew butter. There should only be one ingredient — cashews. Cashews are high in calcium and magnesium and full of proanthocyanidins, which are thought to fight against cancer tumour cells by preventing them from dividing any further.
