In complete despair at the lack of local, organic produce in our supermarkets, with most coming from the Netherlands or Italy, I recently signed up for an organic vegetable box to be delivered to our house weekly.

When I have time, I love visiting McNally’s family farm in north Co Dublin, a mecca for fans of seasonal organic growing, which also has a surprisingly chic café. They serve up veggie/vegan baps and salad pots with homegrown produce like chilli roasted pumpkin, romanesco with peppercorn cheese, pickled onions, and Indian spiced potato.
