Recipes: Lilly Higgins with wholesome classic dishes
Mums, especially new ones, will appreciate these wholesome classic dishes, says Lilly Higgins
This year will be my first time celebrating Mother's Day as our little boy Liam arrived before Christmas. To say that I am now in complete awe of mothers everywhere would be an understatement.
For the first few weeks our mealtimes were a little disrupted. Babies seem to sense when dinner is served. The clink of cutlery appears to rouse them from the deepest of sleeps. We have one such sociable baby and he loves nothing better than for us to abandon our meal and gaze lovingly at him. Which of course we are only too delighted to do.
Those early days of parenthood are the best times to give people these edible gifts.
Home cooking takes a back seat and mealtimes are often forgotten about as the priority becomes keeping the baby healthy and happy. A tub of tomato sauce and meatballs will be so appreciated.
Coming home from the hospital with a new bundle of joy will be made all the more special with this lovely mushroom pie baking in the oven.
And for my mother, now a nana, I'll be making her this gorgeous rhubarb trifle to say thank you for raising all eight of us. Happy Mother's Day!
