Lidl Lord Nelson Peppermint Tea Bags x 25

Supermarket shelves are packed with herbal tea these days and peppermint tea is a popular option. But as with any tea, along with price variations the tastes can differ too. We tasted four own-brand peppermint tea bags; all contain peppermint leaves and nothing else. Both Tesco and M&S's tea were packed in the UK; neither Aldi nor Lidl's boxes indicate where they were packed. Our scores are based on taste and price.

Lidl Lord Nelson Peppermint Tea Bags x 25

Price: €0.99 (3.96c per bag)

Verdict: These tea bags came in second cheapest, but to be fair there was less than a cent in it per bag, when compared to the cheapest, Aldi. While the peppermint flavour wasn't the strongest of the four, these tasted nice and bright and we liked them.

Score: 8/10

Tesco Peppermint Tea Bags x 20

Price: €1.45 (7.25c per bag)

Verdict: These were second dearest, but there was only a tiny fraction between this price per tea bag and that of M&S, whose bags were the dearest. The peppermint flavour was good and strong and we found these very nice and refreshing.

Score: 7.5/10

M&S Pure Peppermint Tea Bags x 20

Price: €1.49 (7.45c per bag)

Verdict: These were the dearest per bag by a whisker, but the taste was good. Very minty and bright, these were most similar in taste to Tesco's tea bags.

Score: 7/10

Aldi Diplomat Peppermint Tea Bags x 40

Price: €1.29 (3.23c per bag)

Verdict: These were the cheapest, although again there wasn't much in it. But we weren't as crazy about the taste of these compared to the others. They seemed less minty, especially when compared to Tesco and M&S's tea bags, and had less of a brightness to them.

Score: 6/10
