Haute cuisine price-tag for a fishy TV dinner, world's most expensive ready-meal revealed
Would you pay haute-cuisine prices for a fish pie TV dinner?
In a fast-moving, career-focused world where the majority of us depend on ready-made meals, the most expensive ready-made meal is to go on sale for the heart-attack inducing price of £314.16 (€378), or Pi. Clever folks.
The creator, homemade meal entrepreneur Charlie Bigham, dislikes the term ‘ready-made meals’ and prefers ‘oven-prepared convenience dishes’.
“It’s a bit of fun,” he told The Telegraph.
“This is how we develop any recipe. We don’t start with looking at costs. We start by making something fantastic, and then work out if it pays its way.”
The ‘oven-prepared convenience dish’ contains ingredients found only in the likes of London’s top Mayfair restaurants.
The main fish is turbot otherwise known as ‘the king of fish’. This is poached in vintage champagne before being placed alongside slivers of Balik salmon from the Norwegian fjords. It is worth €282 a kilo.
It also includes oysters, lobster tails and hand-dived king scallops from Cornwall.
The fish pie comes with creamy-mashed potato that has been mixed with some truffle-infused pecorino cheese.
Clever culinary idea or just a very expensive flash in the pan?
