What's the best bean salad available to buy in supermarkets right now?

Dunnes Simply Better Mixed Bean, Quinoa & Kale Salad, 250g, €2.99 (offer €2.49)

7/10

The best looking of the salads that we tested, our testers found this pleasant but unexciting, and thought that the lime and mint dressing could be more vibrant. 113 calories and 3.8g of sugar per 100g.

M&S 3 Bean Salad, 250g, €3.20

5/10

Our testers found this borlotti, flageolet and black bean salad from M&S to be dull but worthy. The mint vinaigrette was underpowered, but you could liven it up with a squeeze of lemon or lime. 100 calories and 2.6g of sugar per 100g.

Aldi Specially Selected Five Bean Salad, 200g, €1.99

4/10

Although there is a vibrancy to the dressing that our testers appreciated, some felt that the underlying after-taste was unpleasant. And the salad contains hard-to-digest raw green peppers, which are never welcome. 101 calories and 2g of sugar per 100g.

SuperValu Signature Tastes Quinoa & Edamame Soya Bean Salad, 220g, €2.49 or 2 for €4

4/10

Our testers found the sweet chilli, soy and ginger dressing on this salad to be unpleasantly sweet and cloying, and thought that it overpowered the other ingredients. 119 calories and 4.8g of sugar per 100g.
