What's the best mincemeat to buy this Christmas, and do they contain palm oil? Katy McGuinness finds out:

Dunnes Stores Simply Better Rich Fruit Mincemeat, 320g, €3.99

This Irish-made mincemeat includes hazelnuts, almonds and brandy as well as the usual mixture of fruit; the texture and flavour are very good. Contains palm oil in the vegetable suet.

M&S The Collection 6 Month Matured Mincemeat, 510g, €2.95

Definitely one for the grown-ups, this M&S mincemeat contains "a warming splash of brandy" and tastes quite boozy. The fruits include clementines and cranberries, and the flavour is rich and delicious. Contains palm oil.

Lakeshore Luxury Mincemeat, 325g, €3.29

Our testers found this Irish mincemeat, which is made with only vine fruits and apples, lacking in the traditional spice flavours they associate with mincemeat and too sharp for their liking, the dominant flavour is citrus. Contains palm oil.

Chivers Mincemeat, 420g, €2.29

This was by far the sweetest of the mincemeats that we tested and is definitely only for those with a very sweet tooth. The main fruit is apple, and it also contains vine fruits. Our testers would have liked more spice.

Contains palm oil.
