WKD ice cream is a thing and it was created in Ireland
A Northern Irish ice-cream parlour has become the talk of the town after it began to feature flavours with a little bit of a kick on its menu.
Lick Gelato, in Newcastle in Co Down, has been shocked by the public's response after introducing a bright blue ice-cream featuring vodka-based WKD, as well as a Buckfast flavour.
Owner Simon Welby said he has been experimenting with ice cream and alcohol for a while now, and in the past has created a number recipes featuring booze, including prosecco, gin and tonic and cider.
However, it is the recent additions of WKD and Buckfast ice creams that has really seen the interest in his business soar.
Speaking to Independent.ie, Simon said: "We created Buckfast recipe as more of a talking point than anything and it started to take off from there. This then led us to creating our range with WKD flavours and it has gone totally through the roof."
The ice-cream genius said he has been inundated with requests from parlours in the UK to share the recipe for his WKD ice cream, but said he will be keeping it close to his chest for the moment.
Despite the adventurous flavours, Simon admitted the business's new avenue is seeped in irony, as he actually is tee-total.
"The ironic thing is that I don't actually drink myself, but our team of staff are more than willing to sample and make suggestions to get each recipe right before we unleash it to the general public," he said.
"The sky is the limit with the future flavours we will be creating, not only the alcohol ones but our traditional flavours too, so keep an eye out on our social media channels to see what's coming next."
