Video: Philip Boucher Hayes disgusts Late Late audience by exposing the ingredients in sausages
RTE presenter Philip Boucher Hayes turned the tummies of last night’s Late Late Show audience when he gave host Ryan Tubridy a lesson in sausages.
Boucher Hayes, who is currently presenting What are You Eating?, appeared on the programme to expose the ingredients present in many brands of sausage available in Irish supermarkets.
As the audience tucked into cocktail sausages, the pair proceeded to make sausages, bulking up the pork with water and sodium triphosphate (most commonly used in laundry detergents as a water softener).
The next chemical added to the mixture was sodium ascorbate to keep the colour in check, sodium metabisulifite, which is used as a preservative, monosodium glutamate, carmine and sugar.
This isn’t the first time the programme has brought hard truths about our favourite foods to the table. Previously, it has shattered the nation’s appreciation of the beloved hot chicken roll.
