The recipe for the perfect bacon sandwich has been revealed just in time for the Saturday morning fry-up.
New research delved into the bold breakfast favourite and found that untoasted white sliced pan, smoked bacon and lashings of brown sauce are the key to achieving bacon sandwich perfection.
The study found while a quarter of pork lovers choose white bread to make a bacon buttie, 21pc would choose a white bap. Healthier option brown bread hardly got a look in with only 6pc revealing it as their favourite option for a bacon sandwich.
Brown sauce proved more popular than ketchup amongst the survey’s participants and while many prefer to keep the recipe uncomplicated 31pc of people include a fried egg in their breakfast favourite.
More than 15pc add mushrooms and 14pc of bacon admirers add cheese to their sandwich. Other additions such as avocado and banana rate lower on the list.

What makes for the best bacon sandwich has been a subject of debate for decades, even amongst top celebrity chefs.
Chef Jamie Oliver reckons grilled bacon makes for the best bacon sandwich while Marco Pierre White controversially recommends microwaving bacon before banging it between the slices.
Respected food writer Nigel Slater has revealed in the past that bacon sandwiches are “better with factory-made ‘plastic bread’”.
Researchers for Business, who carried out the study, interviewed participants throughout the UK to establish the findings.
Jazz Gakhal, Head of Direct Line for Business said: “Bacon butties have been a staple breakfast for years, helping fuel the nation as they head to work or wind down on the weekend."
"The humble butty inspires passion and debate, and there are those that will always claim bacon needs ketchup, but brown sauce is the collective favourite."
