Six of the most Instagram-worthy Christmas cocktails in Dublin
When every diet slip-up can be shrugged off with a ‘Feck it, it’s Christmas’ who can resist overindulging? For the cocktail-inclined, the capital is a bubble of festive, boozy fun this Christmas season with holiday-inspired tipples popping up all over town.
Over the past five years, Dublin has developed an affection and this year more Christmas-cocktails than ever speckle menus across the city. In the name of research, the city's Christmas-inspired cocktails have been scouted and these six are sure to light up your life (and your Instagram) ahead of the holiday.
The Morrison Hotel
Mr. Frosty and Jingle Jilly
Everybody loves a bit of romance at Christmas and if you don’t have any yourself, ordering this festive couple at the Morrison Hotel might help fill up that hole in your heart.
Mr Frosty is an indulgent creamy treat of vodka, Baileys, vanilla ice cream and whipped cream, creatively topped with a strawberry Santa hat while his girlfriend (new to the menu this year) Jingle Jilly is very fruity in a pink ensemble of rum, strawberry syrup, lime juice, strawberry ice cream and double cream.
Jameson a la Cranberry
If you’re on the search for real festive feels, a trip to The Shelbourne’s No. 27 Bar, just off Stephen’s Green, might prove a worthwhile stroll. The Jameson-based tipple is mixed with Sandman Ruby Port, Cranberry Sauce, Lemon Juice and Angistine bitters to create the perfect Christmas bevvie to quench the thirst after Christmas shopping.
Peruke and Periwig
Can’t Fight this Teeling Anymore
Although not strictly for Christmas, this cocktail doubles as dessert at this Dawson Street venue. Loosely modelled on an Eddie Rocketts Milkshake and made with Teelings Irish Whiskey, the treat is completely overindulgent which is just what Christmas-time calls for. Served up in a malt cup with a candy-striper straw, it’s perhaps the most photogenic cocktail in Dublin.
Fallon and Byrne
Chocolate and Raspberry Martini
For those looking for a more sophisticated offering, Fallon & Byrne’s Christmas cocktail is the perfect choice. The tipple is being mixed up and churned out at F&B’s Exchequer Street restaurant throughout the Christmas season.
Hot Boozy Cocoa
A recent addition to Dublin’s cocktail scene in 2016, Zozimus is serving up a dreamy winter warmer for those chilly Christmas nights. The Hot Boozy Cocoa on the menu, made with lashings of cream, chocolate and most importantly rum, is topped with crushed digestive biscuits and is a real treat on Anne’s Lane.
Drop Dead Twice
BYOB €20 pp for two hours or €30pp for three hours
Hopping Around the Christmas Tree
Dublin’s first BYOB cocktail bar has taken residence on Francis Street and this delightfully christened cocktail can be made up using your spirit of choice (the barman recommends you bring a shoulder). The tipple is mixed with marmalade, lemon, cinnamon, sugar, allspice, and egg whites, topped with Hop House 13 and dusted with a festive sugar tree.
