If creamy avocados regularly feature on your weekly shopping list, you’ll probably be happy to hear that giant forms of the vegetable will hit Irish supermarket shelves this coming weekend.

The rare avozilla, which is grown in Limpopo South Africa will be available in select Tesco stores nationwide on Friday.

Whether you enjoy avocado alongside buttery scrambled eggs, paired with juicy Dublin Bay prawns within a cocktail or just scooping the luxurious green flesh into your mouth, research has shown that Irish people are using more avocados than ever before.

A brunch menu that doesn’t feature avocado is somewhat of a rarity and Google trends indicate that the number of Irish people searching for avocado recipes has risen by 31pc since the beginning of the summer.

Avo-lovers can rest assured that avozillas are not genetically modified when tossing them into their salads this September weekend.

Avozillas will be available in the below Tesco stores:

Bloomfields, Dun Laoghaire

Ballybrack

Greystones, Wicklow

Baggot Street Upper

Galway

Stillorgan
