Ireland's best bar revealed at annual award ceremony (and it's not in Dublin)
A Kilkenny bar has been named the best in Ireland at the annual Sky Bar of the Year Awards, held in Dublin on Monday.
Left Bank, along the Parade in Kilkenny, picked up the gong for Best Overall Bar at the black-tie ceremony, held in Dublin's Clayton Hotel.
The bar once was a Bank of Ireland branch before it was renovated and reopened as the Left Bank in 2008.
The annual ceremony celebrates excellence across the licensed trade and honoured bars throughout the country in more than 30 award categories.
Renowned Galway pub An Púcán was awarded the Southern Comfort People's Choice Award, while the Highline at Sophie's on Dublin's Harcourt Street picked up the award for Best Late Bar/Nightclub.
The Wookshed Bar and Grill in Cork was named the Best Place to Watch The Match, while Cask, also in the city was named the country's Best Cocktail Bar.
Warehouse Bar and Kitchen in Letterkenny was named Best Newcomer, while Blackbird in Dublin was given the award for best Contemporary Bar.
For craft beer, Caribou in Galway was named top dog, while Keogh's in Dublin was bestowed the award for Best Traditional Bar.
Meanwhile, Luke O’Meara of the Liquor Rooms was named the Bushmills' Cocktail Bartender of the year at the ceremony on Monday, which was attended by more than 400 people.
Speaking at the event David Rey, Managing Director of Sky Business, said: "We’re delighted to be once again sponsoring the Sky Bar of the Year Awards and rewarding the people that are making the Irish bar industry such a success. Great venues are supported by hard-working and innovative individuals and it’s important to take the time to recognise their efforts in helping the on-trade to flourish. A big congratulations to all the finalists."
