Feeling the Game of Thrones lacuna? There's a banquet happening next month
If any fans of HBO television series Game of Thrones are feeling a lacuna until the final series airs next year, a themed banquet might just be for you.
The Cross Guns gastro pub in Castletown, Navan is hosting a Game of Thrones-themed banquet - a celebration of wild game and the HBO series Game Of Thrones - on November 3.
Owner Dermot McDonnell tells Independent.ie: “There are a lot of gun clubs around my area so game is very popular. And as an addendum theme then I came up with the idea of fusing that with Game Of Thrones. It’s game food with the Game Of Thrones banquet theme.”
“We’ll be taking well-known international dishes and putting a game slant on it with whatever game is available at the time.”
“There’ll be venison, pheasant and pigeon. We’ll have a vegetarian option which will be foraged locally. The boar on the spit may even make an appearance on the night.”
“It’ll all be washed down with mead, which is made by a producer down in Cork.”
Candelabras, theme music and low lighting will all help to give the air of a medieval banquet, McDonnell says.
“The barn is a stone building. The end wall has a feature, an LED lit stained glass window, there’s vaulted ceilings, and medieval style windows.”
“The event is nearly booked out. We have 50 spaces and there’s eight tickets left.”
The banquet is one of the Boyne Valley Food Series events taking place this season. Other events include an apple harvest walk, a gin school experience, or Sheridan's cheese Christmas fair. For more, see www.boynevalleyflavours.ie
