Amelda Maguire, wife of TV chef Neven, crowned celebrity mum of the year
Mum of two Amelda Maguire has been honoured with the title of ‘Celebrity Mum of the Year’ at a ceremony held in Dublin this afternoon.
The wife of television chef and restaurateur Neven Maguire was awarded the title at a gala luncheon in The Intercontinental held in conjunction with Woman’s Way and Lidl.
The mum of twins Lucia and Connor (3) shared her shock at being crowned the winner by popular vote.
“It was really exciting but I was just totally shocked and just totally confused. I just thought, and I still think, I don’t know how I would come into to anyone’s head to vote for.
“It must be Neven at all his demos saying about Amelda and the twins. That’s the only thing I can figure out,” said Amelda.
Since giving birth to her twins, Amelda has become a source of inspiration for those who have been through difficult labours as she experienced life-threatening complications during the birth of her babies.
The newly crowned celebrity mum developed cardiomyopathy, a condition which affects the heart’s ability to function, during her pregnancy.
Meanwhile, Olive Tumulty was crowned Mum of the Year 2015 at the awards ceremony which was judged by Norah Casey, Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh, Lisa Duffy, Nuala Carey, Edward Hayden and Emma Hannigan.
Sinéad Flynn, a spokesperson for Lidl said: "At judging day, we heard numerous heart-wrenching stories of brave women who have overcome the most difficult of situations, to make a better life for their children and the world around them; women who have, against all odds, worked hard and excelled in later life education at every step, have always had someone else’s interests in mind. Every one of the selfless mums was deserving of an award, which made judging day so hard for everyone in the room.”
