Weaning tends to occur when a child is between four and six months old. Organic vegetables and fruits are a little more expensive, but if you choose locally produced in-season fruit and vegetables they will be both fresher and probably better value than you might think. Steam cooking is the best method to ensure that all the vitamins and minerals contained in foods are retained.

You might want to consider investing in a device such as the Béaba Babycook (pictured right). This handy little number is a four-in-one device that allows you to stream cook, blend, reheat and defrost food all in the same bowl. To save time, you can batch cook your in-season vegetables and fruits and freeze them in portion sizes for use throughout the week.
