The professional option – what to look for

Most of us have our picture taken professionally at some point, but usually for a wedding, communion or some other big event.

But Claire Wilson of and reckons the professional option can also be lovely just to capture “a moment in time” with your family.

“A professional photographer should hopefully have an eye for your family’s personality and capture it in the photograph.”

Wilson believes a family portrait is not just about having everyone look at the camera, it’s about capturing expressions and people’s interactions with one another.

In terms of clothing, she is not a fan of anything too “matchy-matchy”.

“For a while there, there was a big trend for everyone in blue jeans and white shirts. But I think you should just wear whatever you feel good in – whatever that means for you. And also allow the children to have an input into what they wear – even if that means their Spiderman outfit or multicoloured welly boots, so be it!”
