Civil servant Dee Furlong (31) from Finglas explains why baby daughter Daisy has only worn brand-new duds to date.
"I've never put my seven-month-old daughter Daisy in hand-me-downs. But it's not because I'm too snobby; it's simply because I haven't had to.
"As the first grandchild on my fiancé Gavin's side, Daisy is spoilt rotten! Even though she's the seventh grandchild on my side, my family showers her with presents too. Between baby shower, christening and Christmas gifts, Daisy has been dressed for the first year of her life.
"Some of her clothes still have the tags on them. Meanwhile, my twin sister Donna had a baby girl, Amelia-Hope, three months after I did and also received a truckload of baby clothes – some of which she passed on to me until they fit. Most people want everything to be shiny and new for their first baby.
"As a new mum, I find it impossible to walk through the kids' department of Next without picking up something for Daisy. Just the other day, even Gavin came home with an adorable summer dress and denim jacket for her!
"Further down the line, I would have no problem putting Daisy in hand-me-downs, as we're not exactly rolling in cash, either. Once the clothes are either unused or in good condition, I don't have an issue with it.
"Having a baby is so expensive, if you can save money on clothes, cots or toys, it would be foolish not to. Nowadays, nobody is above wearing hand-me-downs."
