Four- months plus

Carrots are a good option to try as a first food. They contain betacarotene, which promotes healthy skin, as well as fibre, which aids digestion. Make sure to buy organic so they contain as few nitrates as possible. In this recipe, we have added potatoes for starch, minerals and vitamins:

First carrot soup

One carrot One small sweet potato Method: Thoroughly wash the carrot and potato. Peel them and wash them again. Cut the carrot into small slices, dice the potato into 1cm cubes and cook them for 15 minutes ( Babycook water level 3) in the steamer basket. Set the cooking juices to one side and transfer the vegetables into the blending bowl. Pulse three times. Add a couple of teaspoons of the cooking juices between each pulse until you obtain a consistency that is thin enough to be drunk from a baby bottle. You can make it a bit thicker later on when baby starts learning to eat from a spoon.
