Florida woman gives birth to a 14lb baby naturally
A Florida woman has given birth to a 14lb (6.3kg) baby boy naturally after only realising she was pregnant during her third trimester.
Maxxzandra Ford welcomed her whopper baby Avery in a Tampa hospital last week following an arduous 18 hour labour.
The new mother didn’t realise she was pregnant until she was eight months gone believing she was just gaining weight at a rapid pace.
The baby is the heaviest to ever be born in the hospital and the state of Florida.
Speaking to a local TV station WFTS Ford said: “I was cussing up a storm,” she said
“I was like, ‘Oh my goodness,’ and they were like ‘Stop pushing. Stop pushing,’
“When I felt his head come out I knew he was bigger than 10lb.”
The mother has two other children who weighed 9lb and 10lb respectively at birth.
The baby’s father believes his son has a promising career in football.
Baby Avery remains in the neonatal intensive care unit at St Joeseph’s Women’s Hopital in Tampa.
“They can have some difficulties getting out of the birth canal and there can be some residual effects from that,” said Dr Jenelle Ferry.
“They can initially have some problems with breathing, regulating their blood sugars and then problems with eating.”
The heaviest baby ever born weighed 23lb 12oz in Canada in 1879, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.
The baby, whose mother Anna Bates had giantism, died 11 hours later.
