'Don't feel guilty for pursuing your goals'
Mum-of-two Laura Haugh set up www.mumtrepreneurclub.ie in June this year as a one-stop online network where entrepreneurial parents can meet like-minded business brains for advice and support. She has these dos and don'ts for any would-be mumtrepreneurs:
DO set business goals. If you don't know where you're going, who knows where you'll end up.
DON'T feel guilty. You can't be there for every single scraped knee. Your children will respect and admire you for what you've achieved when they're older. Try and pick one special activity to do with your child each day.
DO make the time to regularly research your market and competitors. Find one thing that sets you apart from the others and focus your energy on that.
DON'T attempt to do every task associated with running your business yourself -- you will burn out. Outsource jobs that aren't within your skill set.
DO arrange regular accountability sessions with a friend, coach or mentor who will challenge you to achieve what you've set out to do and to think objectively about your business's progress.
DON'T get disheartened. Some of the world's biggest success stories were rejected countless times at first.
DO make use of social media to promote your business. It's the lowest cost yet highest return marketing tool.
DO use every opportunity to network with other mums in business. Connecting with like-minded people can help you grow your business and maintain your sanity while trying to juggle the demands of caring for your children and running the home!
