Daithi and Rita's delight as Micheal Og arrives 'on incredible weekend'
It was a hat-trick of celebrations for 'Today' show host Daithi O Se who welcomed his 8lb 15oz son Micheal Og O Se into the world on St Patrick's Day.
"It has been the most incredible weekend," O Se said.
"Life doesn't get much better than this; the baby, St Patrick's Day and the Six Nations. There's been plenty to celebrate that's for sure. It's very emotional."
O Se's wife Rita Talty went into labour on Sunday morning and gave birth in Galway University Hospital at 11.31am yesterday.
"It was a long enough labour but the staff couldn't have been more helpful," O Se said.
The TV host said he and his wife had named their son after "two grandfathers, two uncles and the next-door neighbour".
The couple announced they were expecting their first child in September 2013 just weeks after O Se's father, Maidhc Dainin O Se, passed away.
"Dad knew the news and was over the moon," O Se said at the time. "It's a pity they'll never meet, though."
According to O Se, his son has inherited his father-in-law's good looks. "I think he looks like Rita's dad, Mike, but some of the nurses say they can see me in there too."
O Se's 'Today' co-host Maura Derrane is due to give birth to her first child in June this year.
The pair will return to the 'Today' set later this year but Derrane is adamant there will be no 'baby talk'.
"I said to Daithi we can't talk about the babies," she said. "I'll put a ban on it – we'll be tired of talking about nappies at that stage."
