Coleen Rooney has revealed that she is to eat her placenta following the birth of her third son, Kit.

The wife of Manchester United Star Wayne Rooney has converted her placenta into capsules, which she will ingest throughout the next few weeks.

Coleen shared a photograph of the pills on her Twitter account, which were provided by a placenta encapsulation specialist after she welcomed her third son on Sunday.

“Looking forward to starting my capsules from Placenta Plus,” Coleen tweeted.

The placenta is an organ, which is attached to both the baby by the umbilical cord, and also the wall of the uterus. It allows oxygen and nutrients to pass from the mother to the baby throughout the pregnancy.

The controversial service is similar to one used by Kim Kardashian, who ingested her placenta after welcoming North and Saint West.

However, Coleen said that she did not know the reality star opted to transform her placenta into capsules also.

Coleen and her husband Wayne welcomed Kit to their family last week, who will join older brothers Kai and Klay.

Mad Men actress January Jones revealed that the process of consuming one’s placenta is “a civilised thing”.

She told Glamour magazine: "It's not gross or witchcrafty. It's a very civilised thing that can help women with depression or fatigue.

"I was never depressed or sad or down after the baby was born, so I'd highly suggest it to any pregnant woman."
