Time to spread the word – reading's great
BUSINESSES and their employees have signed up to a new initiative to help young children learn how to read.
Education Minister Ruairi Quinn was on hand yesterday to launch the programme which is aimed at boosting childhood literacy levels.
'Time to Read', a community-based programme, twins 14 primary schools with local businesses across Ireland and is particularly aimed at second-class primary school children.
Volunteers agree to read to eight and nine-year-old children by visiting their schools on a weekly basis.
Among the companies taking part are ESB, KPMG and Irish Life.
