Teacher succeeds in breaking record
A TEACHER who sat a gruelling 30 Leaving Certificate subjects yesterday set a new exam record after passing all but three of the exams.
Eoin Jackson (35), right, from Brownstown Head near Tramore, Co Waterford, broke his own record for passing the highest number of exams in the State. Mr Jackson notched up top marks in 27 subjects -- 17 at higher level and 10 at ordinary level.
His outstanding report card included a higher level A1 in biology, a subject which he teaches, as well as a higher level B1 in music.
Just three subjects received a fail grade: ancient biblical Hebrew, applied maths and accounting.
In June the self-confessed exam nerd sat tests in 20 subjects at higher level and 10 ordinary level subjects.
In 1994, Mr Jackson, who also teaches geography and music, passed 20 Leaving Cert exams -- four at higher level.
Mr Jackson undertook the challenge to raise funds for his school, the XLc Project, which helps early school leavers through exams.
