Rental scheme pays off

At Scoil Mhuire National School in Coolcotts, Co Wexford, parents make large savings through the book rental scheme. Parents pay €30-€40 per year to rent out their books.

Pat Goff, principal, said: "We would hope to get four to five years out of each set of books."

He said the school discouraged the use of workbooks, which cannot usually be re-used.

"Increasingly we are finding that we are using iPads in the classroom. For certain classes, we would give out iPads to the children, and take them back at the end. That can save money on books."
