Deirdre Rooney picked Biomedical Science at NUI Galway because she wasn’t sure whether she wanted a career in medicine or general science.
NUI Galway had been high on her list “because of its outstanding reputation; friends and family relentlessly encouraged me to go because of their unforgettable experiences there”.
The 20-year-old from Carraroe, Co Sligo, loves the course, and the small, 60 student class. Although still only in first year, at the moment she favours going onto do post graduate Medicine.
But it’s not all study. As a class representative for the students' union, Deirdre has been involved in organising class parties and other social events.
Deirdre also joined a number of societies, “too many at first, but I have stuck with the kayaking club. It is a great way to make friends and take a well earned break from study”.
