Leaving Cert 2012: Spanish students happy with ‘very do-able’ exam
LEAVING Certificate Spanish students were happy leaving today’s exam, according to one teacher.
Maggie Fernandez of The Institute of Education described the higher level comprehension sections are “very do-able”.
There was “nothing too taxing” in the first comprehension text, which related to a killer whale being transported to an aquarium, while the Section B opinion piece, about emigration from Mexico to the USA, was “reasonable”.
She said written opinion section gave students an opportunity to show some optimism, having been asked to write on “Emigration is an opportunity not a problem” or “ The area where you live is not important”.
Ms Fernandez described the diary entry and note sections as “consistent with previous exams”.
And she reported no problems at ordinary level with “very manageable” comprehension sections and written exercises that repeated themes that are covered in the oral exam.
