Kids should research a topic that interests them

Natalie Haccius, whose seven-year-old son Sam goes to Citywest Educate Together National School in Dublin, says: "I tend to take an irreverent view of homework and believe in getting it done as quickly as possible.
"It does give me an opportunity to see how Sam is progressing in school.
"Fortunately the school is very flexible in terms of what he does. He was having difficulty reading, and I decided to get an app that could help him, and the school was happy with that. It worked well and now he loves books."
The school principal Caitriona Hand says: "We do not give children homework every day, and it should not be too rigid.
"It should encourage a love of learning. It is an opportunity for children to research a topic they are interested in."
