Cork school choir wins all-island competition
A CORK school choir has walked away with a prestigious award in a nationwide competition.
Presentation Secondary School, from Ballyphehane, Cork city, was last night named as the winner of the All-Island School Choir Competition.
The event was the second annual competition and was broadcast live from the Waterfront in Belfast.
"We are absolutely delighted. The school will be so proud, as will the whole of Cork," choir director Anne Dunphy said.
"Congratulations to all the girls who worked so hard to make tonight such a success."
President Mary McAleese and Northern Ireland Secretary of State Owen Paterson watched as the Cork school won the main prize of the evening.
The four finalists were chosen at the regional finals in Cork; Castlebar, Co Mayo; Navan, Co Meath; and Armagh.
The winning school received a trophy and a cheque for £5,000 (€5,900) and the three other choirs in the final received £1,000 (€1,177) each.
