€500m Grangegorman DIT campus gets green light from An Bord Pleanala
THE €500m DIT centralised development at Grangegorman has gotten the go-ahead from An Bord Pleanala.
However, plans for three buildings which will be between 12 and 15 storeys high will have to get separate planning permission because of their potential impact on the Dublin skyline.
According to the Grangegorman Development Agency, it will proceed with the development through its own funding as the Government withdrew its financial support.
The plan includes having about half of DIT’s total student population – or 10,000 students – on the site by 2017.
It also involves moving 39 different DIT colleges around the capital into one campus on part of the 75-acre grounds of St Brendan’s psychiatric hospital.
It includes the third-level facility, healthcare facilities and a primary school.
Local residents objected to the height and density of the development and say that the plans are too vague.
In its approval the board made a number of conditions designed to improve access, ensure the renovation of protected buildings on the site and lessen the impact on local residents.
