A delighted dog is thrilled to have finally found her 'forever' home after more than seven years spent in a Wicklow animal shelter.

Jack Russell and beagle cross Angel was adopted by a family this week, after ASH Animal Rescue Centre highlighted the pooch's long-term search for a family.

The Rathdangan organisation placed a note on its Facebook page on Thursday, in the hopes of finding a family to adopt the "shy" pooch, which garnered a huge reaction from the local community.

After spotting Angel's photo, a Wicklow family arranged a meeting with the dog, during which they really hit it off.

An update posted on the page on Sunday said: "Angel has been booked to a home. Her future owners came over today to meet our shy girl and it seems that everything is going in the good direction."

The lucky dog is preparing to move in with her family within weeks.

"Angel is still with us, she needs to get to know her future family a bit better before she will be ready to go home," the message read.

***Angel has been adopted and is very happy at her forever home ❤ *** Good Morning from Angel Everyone ❤ It has been...
