A Dublin bride who lost her best friend to cancer has recreated a childhood photograph in his memory on her wedding day.

Jade Whyte (26) and her friends were heartbroken when David O’Toole died aged just 16 after battling cancer.

The bride, from Donaghmede, wanted to remember her friend on the day she married husband Eric.

“After David died we were all absolutely heart-broken. He was the best friend I could have ever asked for. We were so upset, we built a garden at school in his honour to help us focus on something other than grief,” said Jade.

“That’s where the original photograph was taken of the five of us.”

The beautiful bride wed her husband two weeks ago but revealed it was important to include David in some way on her big day.

“I wanted to go back to the garden on my wedding day with my friends and my husband. Being there meant something to us and it was a lovely way to remember him during the day.

“David’s mam couldn’t be at the wedding. She has moved away so it was lovely to be able to send her the photo,” said Jade.

The beautiful bride believes the group of friends have David to thank for their strong bond.

“It was so nice to go back to David’s garden with the friends that helped start it with me. I have such a good group of friends and I think David is the reason our friendships are so strong.”
