David Beckham defends his decision to kiss 7-year-old daughter on lips
David Beckham has defended his decision to post a picture of himself kissing his daughter on Instagram.
In the picture, he is kissing 7-year-old Harper on the lips.
This caused some controversy, with some critics saying the picture was "inappropriate".
One wrote "David, to kiss lips of your daughter that's wrong," and another said "to be honest kissing your daughter on the lips is a little weird".
However, others said it was a charming display of fatherly affection.
One wrote: "If anyone has anything bad to say about this picture they need to look at themselves I think it says more about you than it does the Beckhams theres nothing but love here".
And another said: "I feel sorry for any child that does not receive love and affection from their parents, but my god don't resent what you didn't get as a child.. beautiful photo".
In a Facebook Live discussion, Mr Beckham said he is "very affectionate" with his children as that was how he was brought up.
He said: "I got actually criticised for kissing my daughter on the lips the other day. I kiss all my kids on the lips.
"Brooklyn, maybe not. Brooklyn’s 18, he might find that a little bit strange. But I'm very affectionate with the kids. It's how I was brought up and Victoria, and it’s how we are with our children.
"We want to show our kids love and we protect them, look after them, and support them, and we’re very affectionate with them."
Victoria Beckham had previously been criticised for kissing Harper on the lips.
Angered social media users posted abusive comments on the picture, saying it was a "horrible" and "controversial" picture.
Some even wrote it was "disgusting" that she kissed her daughter on the lips.
However, parents at the time hit back at the trolls by showing it is normal to kiss your children.
They showed support for Victoria Beckham by posting photographs of themselves kissing their children on the lips.
