Eric may not have won the top prize at Crufts but the tiny Pekingese is the Internet's 'Best in Show'
Eric the tiny Pekingese dog may not have won the top prize at Crufts on Sunday but he has one the hearts of the Internet.
Eric was a contender for the Best in Show prize after winning Best in Group for Toy breeds on Thursday.
He returned to the competition on Sunday, complete with his bouffant 'do, to compete for the top spot.
As he gracefully took to the floor, the fluffball won the hearts of those on social media as Twitter lit up with messages of support for Eric.
The adorable pooch and his hair-raising strut eventually lost out to Geordie Girl, the dog who won Best in Show on Sunday night - the first West Highland Terrier to win the top prize in 26 years.
While dog lovers agree that Geordie Girl (also known as Devon) is a gorgeous little Westie, they can't help but feel that little Eric was robbed.
His handler, who was seen combing out Eric's fur until the very last minute, was full of praise for the pampered pooch.
"Eric is a fantastic dog with a great character. I was going to retire him but decided to bring him back and this is his first show since Crufts last year. He's a beautiful, sound and happy dog. After all these years I still get a real thrill when one of my dogs win."
Loving how they've bouff'd up Eric the Pekinese at #Crufts - reminiscent of Robert Smith from The Cure— Daddy Timmers (@daddytimmers) March 13, 2016
Received about 50 texts from my mum about Eric at Crufts, googled him and I am not disappointed pic.twitter.com/6xVN9kRnoI— Lucy Freeman (@_lucyfreeman) March 13, 2016
