Big hearted biker: Comedian PJ Gallagher to ride across Route 66 for charity
Comedian PJ Gallagher will be among the 60 riders who will travel across the iconic American highway to raise funds for patients of Temple Street Children’s Hospital.
The epic 2,400 mile journey across America’s ‘Mother Road’ begins this Sunday.
Naked Camera star PJ Gallagher will be part of the group who are aiming to raise €250,000 for sick children.
Angela McNulty, Temple Street’s Special Events Manager, welcomed PJ to the Irish 66 team, and spoke of how their participation makes such a difference to “little biker buddies in the hospital”.
"I’m delighted to be involved and making a difference in some small way," PJ added.
It all kicks off in Chicago, and the crew will then ride across the dusty Main Street of America, passing nostalgic diners and gas stations for 12 days before reaching Sunset Boulevard in western Los Angeles.
In those days, they will travel through nine states and four time zones, taking in the scenery of places such as Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas and Arizona.
To date, the twice yearly trip has raised over €2.5 million for redevelopment of Temple Street Children’s Hospital and purchasing in vital life-saving equipment.
Temple Street cares for over 145,000 sick children every year, making it one of Europe’s busiest pediatric hospitals.
