Is this Ireland’s luckiest turkey? Trixie avoids the oven for the third Christmas in a row
Ireland’s luckiest turkey is breathing a sigh of relief as she has managed to avoid the oven for the third Christmas in a row.
Trixie, a turkey from Galway City, has avoided being gobbled up by the hungry residents of St Mary’s nursing home in Shantalla for three consecutive years despite being purchased for an almighty Christmas feast in 2013.
According to the Connacht Tribune, chancer Trixie escaped death that year by conveniently breaking her wing in the run up to Christmas. The animal had to undergo a course of antibiotics and so was inedible by the time Christmas dinner came around, which proved lucky.
Throughout 2014, Trixie worked hard to win the hearts of the Galway nursing home’s residents, who all voted to allow the turkey to avoid being roasted once again and live on to celebrate the New Year.
This year has been particularly tough for Trixie, who apart from worrying about her fate in this month, cheated death once again in a fox attack.
“Trixie suffered some damage in the attack but she has re-grown the feathers that were bitten off,” the paper reports.
“And she won’t be getting stuffed this Christmas.”
